Only on the air for one season, Backstrom proved to be too oddball for American viewers. Based on the Swedish book series by Leif GW Persson, the show was set in Portland, Oregon. It featured Rainn Wilson (aka Dwight Schrute in The Office) as an unhealthy curmudgeon police detective who solves murders with his team of quirky criminologists and his wayward tenant Gregory. I watched the show, which thankfully wasn’t set in Los Angeles or New York City, because it was light hearted and predictable. It was a cosy mystery, if you will.
